For OEM production, sample evaluation therefore needs to go beyond a general visual inspection. A sample can reveal discrepancies that are not obvious from a specification sheet alone. The physical product allows the buyer to examine how the defined characteristics come together as one finished item.
This is especially relevant when several requirements interact. A change in fabric characteristics may affect the finished feel or folded volume. A change in construction may affect appearance or dimensions. A change in folding may alter how the product fits into its individual package.
The sample should therefore be evaluated as a complete finished product rather than as a collection of independent specifications.
When packaging is customized, sample evaluation should extend beyond the bandage itself.
The individual package should correspond to the agreed packaging configuration, including the selected packaging format, presentation, dimensions where applicable, and compatibility with the physical product.

Finding a difference does not necessarily mean that the sample has failed. The important question is whether the difference has been identified, understood, and resolved before bulk production begins.
A customized sample may contain an intentional deviation because the manufacturer has proposed an alternative construction, packaging method, or production solution. In other cases, the difference may result from an incomplete understanding of the requirement.
These situations should not be left to assumption.
If the buyer identifies a difference between the sample and the intended configuration, the manufacturer should clarify what caused it and whether the production version will follow the sample or the previously agreed requirement. If the buyer accepts the difference, the applicable requirement should be updated or otherwise documented so that both parties are working from the same configuration.
This is one of the most important functions of sample approval. It converts unresolved product-development details into defined production requirements.
Without this step, a manufacturer may produce according to the sample while the buyer expects production to follow an earlier specification. Both parties may believe they are following the agreement even though their references are different.
